Spoon 18cm Polka Dot
Ideal size spoon for a morning coffee or afternoon tea for adding sugar or jam. Brings a unique touch to a table and makes something that you use every day a little more special.
Handmade and painted using the horn of a zebu in Madagascar. The horn used is from a zebu that has passed on due to natural causes. In fact, Zebu, which is used for work, are allowed to grow big enough to get horns big enough to be used to make things at the end of their lives.
The production of a zebu horn is a time-consuming and challenging process. After the horn has been heated carefully over a low flame so it can be formed, it is afterwards sliced into the form that will be produced by using it. The final form is achieved by heating it once again and then pressing it into the mould in order to shape it. After that, it is squeezed for a few minutes. The final step is to place it in ice water, which will help it maintain its shape. The horn is then polished until it is glossy and bright, first with coarse sandpaper and then with fine-grained, wet ash until it reaches the desired level of sheen.
As with all natural materials, the spoons are not dishwasher-proof.
Please keep in mind that because these spoons are handcrafted by artisans, they may vary slightly in shape & style.
