African wax fabric prints, made from 100% cotton, use a wax-resist method that offers the opportunity for vibrant colours and patterns. Dried straw is harvested locally in Africa and then woven with the wax fabric creating an alluring design and effect. This basket is from a French company which opened weaving schools for young girls in 14 villages across Senegal, employing more than 2,000 women.
