The Baobab is a prehistoric species that predates both mankind and the splitting of the continents over 200 million years ago. There are 9 species of Baobab trees in the world, 6 from Madagascar, 2 from Africa and 1 from Australia. The Baobabs store a large volume of water in their trunks explaining their very large size. The largest in the record was 47 meters in circumference!! They can live up to 5000 years. It is a symbol of life and positivity in a landscape where little else thrives. It is also known as "The Tree of Life" due to its ability to produce a nutrient-dense fruit in the dry season when all around is dry and arid.
